GoGamer’s ‘Madness Sale’ – three good picks
GoGamer.com routinely has ‘Madness Sales.’ They tend to feature a mixed bag of ‘$5-off top titles’, a lot of bad games, and occasional gems.
Here are three titles in the latest sale that are solid values:
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 / Xbox 360 – $9.90 – (86 at Metacritic) is a squad-based tactical shooter set in 2014. You lead the U.S. military’s elite fighting unit, the Ghosts, as they use cutting-edge technology (and lots of guns) to try to prevent Mexico from launching into a civil war.

In their 4.5/5 review, the Sydney Morning Herald said:
Spectacular visuals, ruthless opposition and gritty, tactical gunplay make this intense entertainment for solo soldiers and a hoot to play online with friends.
Ghost Recon 2 was named ‘The Game of the Month’ by Game Informer in May of 2007.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion / PC – $5.90 – (94 at Metacritic) is single-player RPG set in a vast and well-developed world. There is a central, epic story about finding a missing heir, but there are hundreds of sub-quests and additional adventures. Character development is open-ended; each skill is developed individually, so you can be a warrior who throws fireballs, or an archer who knows how to turn himself invisible.

I’m not sure how many raves you need to sell you on this game, but Metacritic has a bunch: ‘most captivating first-person role-playing game yet,’ ‘essential,’ ‘epic,’ ‘utterly brilliant,’ ‘the standard has been set, and it’s been set ridiculously high.’ All for six bucks.

SpellForce Universe / PC – .90 (NINETY CENTS!) – combines real-time strategy with RPG play. The original game SpellForce: The Order of Dawn was followed by two expansions: SpellForce: The Breath of Winter (2004) and SpellForce: Shadow of the Phoenix (2005). A sequel, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars was released in 2006 and Spellforce 2: Dragon Storm was released in 2007. The Universe includes everything — at least 120 hours of game play, assuming you’re aggressive about playing through. GameRankings suggests that SpellForce 2 is the best of the bunch — 80%. So, drop the dollar, check it out, and, if you like it, you’ve got another 100 hours of play waiting for you.

If you’re going to get any of these, act soon. This ‘Madness Sale’ ends Thursday night.
