Indie Games / PC – $5
Direct2Drive, an online retailer who specializes in downloadable games, is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a month-long sale of PC titles for $5. Each week offers a new category. This week the theme is “independents.”
Games that are worth playing in the set that are currently on sale include:
World of Goo - a charming platform and puzzler (90 at Metacritic; Eurogamer said that it is “so utterly charming, so pregnant with charisma, and so simple in concept, that it belongs in another era.”)

Bridge Construction Set - build a bridge, and run a train over it. (85 at GameRankings; Game Chronicles said it was “morbidly entertaining” and “(a) highly addictive, incredibly fun game that will inspire much temple rubbing.”
Gish – a 2D side-scroller where you play a pile of tar rescuing your girlfriend (80 at Metacritic; GameSpot said it’s “an awesome little game” that “epitomizes everything that independently produced, budget-priced titles should aspire to.”)
Defense Grid - a well-produced tower defense game (82 at Metacritic; GameFocus said it’s a “great looking game with plenty of variety in the overall level and tower design as well as some good looking enemies.”)
The Path – a short horror title where the object is to get Little Red Ridinghood to Grandmother’s House (80 at Metacritic; the Onion’s AV Club called it “a skin-crawling experience”, with a forum that “hosts some of the most insightful, polite discussions you’ll find on a videogame forum.”)
